Stop Motion animation is a unique animation technique that brings inanimate objects to life by manipulating them frame by frame. It is a laborious and time-consuming process, but the results are often stunning and mesmerizing.

I had the opportunity to Direct and Produce multiple Stop Motion animation campaigns for Berkshire Hathaway’s subsidiary Oriental Trading Company, and it was a remarkable experience that I will cherish forever.

Berkshire Hathaway is a multinational conglomerate holding company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. The company is known for its diverse portfolio of subsidiaries, including GEICO, Fruit of the Loom, and Duracell. As the Creative Director and Lead Animator on these campaigns, my job was to create seasonal promotional videos starring OTC’s new product lines.

The project was challenging and exciting at the same time. I was given a brief by the client, which included the basic concept and rough outline. My job was to bring the concept to life through Stop Motion animation. The videos ranged from 15 to 60 seconds long, and required thousands of static frames to be shot and many weeks of work.

The first step was to gather the materials and props that would be used in the video. I worked with my team to create miniature sets and choreographed movements for the products that were being featured. Attention to detail was essential in creating an engaging and captivating video.

The actual animation process was long and tiring, but it was also incredibly satisfying. We had to take thousands of photos, each slightly different from the previous one, to create the illusion of smooth movement. The process required precision and patience, and we had to ensure that everything was in place before taking the next shot. We worked for three weeks on the animations, and it was an experience that I will never forget.

Once the animation was complete, I edited the images into video sequences and added sound effects and music. The final results were beautiful and captivating videos that showcased the products in an exciting and innovative way. It was rewarding to see the client’s reaction to the video, as well as the social reactions alongside revenue numbers tripling during the campaigns.
